How It Works
Creighton Bluejays vs San Diego State Aztecs — First Round, March 17, 2022
72–69First Round
About This Game
Creighton's path to the next round ran through a defensive gauntlet at Dickies Arena, where First Round intensity and San Diego State's length tested every Bluejay. The Aztecs' three-point threat was real—five makes showcased their range—yet Creighton's answer lay elsewhere: 44 rebounds to San Diego State's 35, a commanding advantage in a low-scoring affair. The Bluejays' patient execution at the free throw line (20 makes) proved the difference, nearly double the Aztecs' output (10 makes). Both teams played suffocating perimeter defense and loose ball control—79 combined misses told that story—but Creighton's interior presence and discipline shone through in the crucible of overtime. The game was decided not by flash or volume shooting, but by unglamorous work: securing offensive boards, making free throws when stakes are highest, protecting the ball when it matters most. When the final second ticked away, Creighton had claimed a 72-69 victory in the kind of tournament grind that defines NCAA basketball. This First Round thriller is captured as a Gameprint, showing every possession of this defensive battle.
Game highlights: - Creighton's 44-35 rebounding dominance decided First Round thriller, Bluejays' free throw execution (20 made vs 10 for Aztecs) won the game, San Diego State's five three-pointers couldn't overcome Creighton's inside presence, Overtime victory decided by 3 with both teams combining 79 misses, Tournament-style efficiency and composure secured Creighton's path forward
