Purdue Boilermakers vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights — December 9, 2021
68–70
About This Game
In one of college basketball's most stunning upsets, Rutgers defeated the nation's top-ranked Purdue team through precision and poise down the stretch. The stats reveal a closely contested affair where efficiency mattered more than volume: both teams made exactly 18 field goals and 7 three-pointers, yet Rutgers achieved that mark in just 46 attempts compared to Purdue's 59—a significant edge in shot selection. The Scarlet Knights also converted 13 free throws to Purdue's 11, while Purdue's 38-rebound advantage proved insufficient to overcome Rutgers' balanced offensive approach.
The game remained uncomfortably close throughout, with both teams committing double-digit turnovers in a sloppy, high-pressure contest. Purdue seized what appeared to be a decisive 68-67 lead with 4 seconds remaining, but Rutgers executed a final possession with devastating precision. The game-winning moment—a last-second shot with perfect timing—capped off the Scarlet Knights' improbable victory and sent their home crowd into jubilation. This unforgettable upset lives on in Gameprint's custom wall art, which captures the full narrative of every possession, drive, and defensive stand.
Game highlights: Historic upset of No. 1 Purdue, Ron Harper Jr. career-high 30 points with 10 rebounds on 10-of-15 shooting, Rutgers' superior shot efficiency (18 FG on 46 attempts vs Purdue's 59), Free-throw advantage for Rutgers (13-11)
